Her Lamentations

Her Lamentations

Tell her life…

Life… a fresh leaf

Bitter like bitter-leaf

Same time healthful;

So for all the ant-labor

She labors

She should be so hopeful…

Lord, help her!!

What is hope without you?

Oblige her heart to anticipate

Sharpen her eyes

To see from where she stands;

Her past efforts, and to come,

Wish she could see her future

It looks so bright

It will be beautiful…

Oh lord!!

Even when the dark cloud comes

Breaking their bonds

Thereafter, hope she’ll be so grateful

Make her see things

Then she would know

That the ant-labors

Not in vain…

Comment:

The period the writer (Onyeche Vincent Onyeka) wrote this piece, was one of his hard days after school. He had finished his O’ level and was supposed to have gone for his NYSC. Due to his personal carelessly and incommunicado, he missed out the first batch (Batch B’ June 2010) and was expecting to be included in the Batch C’ (September list). Accidently, there was another setback. His name was also missing in the batch C’ list released September 2010. This time it wasn’t his own carelessness but of his’ department (Biochemistry, DELSU). Which they gave an annoying excuse; “Head of Department (HOD) traveled out of the country”. He labors hard with hope but like every other kismet-searching youth, here is his lamentations; “Hope I Make It in Life”.
