Spirits
Of the dark world
Beckoned thy evil deeds.
Off shades
And widen hands
To get thee back to roots.
White chalks
And roasted yams
Gets thee back home to farm.
Reasons;
To silent hymn
Yet singing lines to him.
Often;
Things turn deep red,
Leaving him disoriented.
Roasted yam is a series of poem I wrote… Scheduled and published daily from July 16 -22, 2017. It’s written around an African traditional charm. Every language might have theirs. One of my days in Ika land, I learnt that parents or relatives use charms to bring their love ones back home. If they roast a yam, the love one would return from overseas to eat of it. But most times this dark act, leaves the returnee disoriented and often leads to death. Enjoy.
