The race of rocks in me, nurse an aged fear
For it seems bad news swing by every year
First it was Uncle Pius who disappeared
Then Mama left us cold, bitter in tears…

Back then, O’yo yo’ we used to sing
Running to Baba to get a hug and swung
He made us laugh louder than bells can ring
He deserved more than can ever bring.

The curtains were open; well, that was yesterday
I had called in to say; “hello” today
Only to be told, he was gone with the rays
To join our ancestors who watch and pray.
