Nigeria: Dying rather than living

I am a fruit of a great giant tree
But dirty political practices
And failed judiciary systems
Plucks me unripened off the stems.
Darkness have eroded me…
Hello; can anyone hear me,
Or see my seeds by the saddle
Stuck in a thick dark shadow
Where the light is far from near…
Here, I am overwhelmed with fear
Fear of an unknown tomorrow
As a result of the greedy blows
From lavish vanishing magicians
All in buckets as strong politicians,

Annoyingly, they are all scums
Abusing offices, stacking large sums
But who would you even blame
When Nigerians are after names;
Am a Lawyer, in an ill judiciary
Well, that’s a topic for another diary
But please hold on, let me flow;
In this terrifying shadow
I hear the police siren
Sincerely, I rather be dying
Than demanding help from them
For they will destroy my gem
Taxing me for mobilizing fees
Stinging me like the honeybees.

Lament of the land

All life long, I search for the principles
Behind massacring and taking life
I search none stop for the rationale
Behind the devastating laws
Economist call; “the laws of demand”.

Those in command demands accolade
Folks skin dry elephants at one end
While fighting for conservation
And bio-diversity preservation
Exclusively and intensively at the other end.

Some store milks for their ancestral lineage
Reaping off funds from a fellow brother
And sharing pints back as community service;
Whereas the purpose of life ought to be prime
Not creating wealth by multiplying poverty, evil and crime..

Laws of land replaced by the laws of demand
Brothers controlling water are hiking price
Sisters in charge of fire does the same
The government tarrif for air is huge
Everyone in charge of sand, double price…

Slavery may be old but never dead
The world was created to roam in freedom
But even in this time, people leave in chains
It may not be the metals you expect
But an unbearable and frustrating life you see..

The economy in Nigeria is worsening
But the fact is, it isn’t Nigeria but Nigerians;
…For the problem of a country is created
Not by a country but its citizens,
Screaming make the world a better place.

Stagnant Lake

There is no need ruling
For plebs to peruse at glitters
And whales in a stagnant lake
While your stomachs turn pots.

There is no need painting
A rusted iron rooted in water
Whose salinity is at its peak
Corroding as a hell on earth.

There is no need hiding
Or shying away from matters
That could heal our weak links…
And end the present hardship felt.

There is no need saying
We are pretty, when it is filters
And powders that makes us sleek
Yet plebs dwell and live in regret.

Bight of Igbo

People of Igbo
Unity you know
Is what you owe

Complains will not
Fix screws to nuts
Nor make ties knot

Bights can straighten
Be not threatened
You are born king

And your kingdom
Goes moribund
By greedy bond

You are green white
Do not pick fight
Or try to separate

Instead make kites
Fly on your land
And the blue sky.

Unemployed

Ack! There are bones
In our wardrope
Boo-hoo… We cry
For one two three
Lectures we crammed.

Aye! Stand and Ascend
The throne of head
Graduate; we try
Leap then to fly
But the school lied.

Eek! So surpised
Street hot, class iced…
In bed we tie
Joblessness lies
Future seems denied.

Hunh! Wallets throw
And joints we roll
Liquor we buy
We stay so high
Devil our mind.

Mwah! hugs no kiss
Snakes can’t hiss
Cats don’t die
Searching for pie
A spot to land.

Yum! We go home
With spits that foam
On mummy’s pie
And her hot fry
We eat in yard.

Yuck! kids nextdoor
Grow bad odour,
You, them and I
Who once said hi
Say bye, then hide.

Tick the time ticks
Hairs changing ink
Low key we stay
Red, day by day…
…Unemployed…
